Spring is sprung!

Wow! It has been one long, snowy winter. Just look at the pile of snow below our deck. Note the open section of the railing where I can just push my shovel loads off the deck. That pile has shrunk quite a bit lately, so you can just imagine.

And today, which is April Fool's Day,  the temps were near 60 degrees and the air had  an unmistakable hint of spring in it. Buio was the first to notice it...

Veronique ventured outside and saw it first: a patch of grass peeking through the snow!

Buio was just as psyched as we were.

Spring was in the air!.

Just look at the red bark on our wild cherry trees....

The frozen ground began to give up its vapors....

Rising higher and higher, toward the sun...

And then it happened. The most amazing sunset. It made me dream of becoming a landscape painter!

Our Vacation in St. Martin

Veronique and I were lucky this winter! We had accumulated enough miles on our Jet Blue card to qualify for two free round-trip tickets, and then we were actually able to use our award on Jet Blue's inaugural flight from JFK to SXM, which is Sint Maarten on the Dutch side and St. Martin on the French side. We found a cute little apartment in a residential area just north of Orient Beach, which is located on the northeastern windward coast of the French side. There was a very unassuming villa just down the road where we were staying, that housed the best restaurant with the nicest ambience and the greatest food. It is called Sol e Luna, and they also have guest houses, which we'll be staying in on our next trip! The food was so good that we ended up dining there 5 times! We spent our days walking the mile and half long Orient Beach, bodysurfing (me) and reading (Ver). Just what the doctor ordered to cure our mid-winter Vermont blues!
